Plastic Milk

Using some easily obtained household items, it is possible to turn milk into plastic

Ingredients:

• Milk
• Vinegar
• Food Colouring
• Jar
• Sock or stocking
• Biscuit cutter

Method:

1. Heat the milk over a low heat on the stove, don’t let it boil.
2. Add a drop or two of food colouring, and stir.
3. Add two tablespoons of vinegar, and stir until clumps form.
4. Place the sock or stocking into the jar, and secure the top around the top of the jar.
5. Pour the milk and vinegar mixture into the sock/stocking, and allow the liquid to drain through into the jar.
6. Squeeze excess liquid out of the lumps, and then press the lumpy material into a biscuit cutter.
7. Allow to dry for two or three days

Results:

• When we added the green food colouring to the milk it turned slightly green.
• When we put the vinegar in, the milk went lumpy.
• We strained the liquid out of the lumpy bits, and pressed the lumps into a gingerbread biscuit cutter
• The lumps were soft and squishy, and had turned darker green
• We let it dry, and it turned hard, and went even darker green.
